She is the daughter of mother Nancy Bursch Smith, and father Darryll Dewan, an American football player. Dewan has a sister Missy Dewan and three brothers Nathan Dewan, Shane Dewan, and Daniel Dewan. Her mother is of English and German descent, while her father is of Lebanese and Polish ancestry. She completed her schooling from Grapevine High School in Grapevine, Texas, and then she went to the University of Southern California.
Dewan had been in a relationship with American actor Shane West from June 2003 to February 2005. Later, she started dating to Channing Tatum in September 2005 and the couple got married on July 11, 2009. She gave birth to their first child as a daughter Everly Tatum on May 31, 2013. The duo split in April 2018 and they divorced in October 2018. After that, she started dating to actor Steve Kazee in 2018 and she gave birth to their first child a daughter Callum Michael Rebel on March 6, 2020.
